Need some assistance with the Remote Desktop Setup
Trying to help my mom (maintain/clean pc, etc) with her pc
needs, as well as keeping her slide show screen saver up
to date with pics of her new grandaughter. She live >1000
miles from us.

I have a Windows ME machine with a linksys WEP54g router
and SBC DSL service. She has Windows 98SE machine with
same router and Verizon DSL.

Set up the remote desktop per instructions (Netmeeting
3.01) but I cannot take control of her machine. I am
getting the IP address via ipcnfg. I get the error
message like everyone else that says that I cannot connect.

People have been told I need to open up certain ports, but
which ones?
I have no idea what a NAT is or how to set up a DMZ.

Any help for this simpleton would be appreciated.

Thanx

If all you want to use when you connect are data functions ( no audio/video)
then you need to forward tcp 1503 to her computer from her router, them make
a secure ( that guarantees data only) to the wan ip of her router.

The process you are using gets her private ip -- you need the public wan IP
of the router -- available in her router configuration panel.

I am sure which procedure you are asking about but both determining the wan
IP of the router and forwarding port 1503 to the required client are router
specific procedures that you would have to consult your router documentation
for.
