I'm deperately trying to get Netmeeting to work (at
present just over a LAN), on my XP machine but am
incountering a few problems.

I really wanted to be able to change the compresion
settings but when i click the advanced audio option
button in options nothing happens?

Also when connecting to another machine on the network
(win 98 machine, both connected via a wireless router,
and with zone labs firewall on) there is no audio, both
mics work fine on other programs, and chat and other
features of netmeeting work fine?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks
Dave

Why do you want to change the audio compression?

On all systems that I know of you can change audio compression by using the
button you indicated. There are group policy settings that allow changing of
options available to the user but none afaik that prevent this option from
being exercised ( if access to audio controls are available at all).

This is on the same network? The audio does not function either way? What
about video? A "secure" call would force a data only call. Is it possible a
secure call is being made?

I need to be able to change the compression for a
research kind of scenario, i've some how ended up using
net meeting in my dissertation. The other machine seems
to have the option to change compression but not my XP
machine, i assume this means i must have an indiviudal
problem with my machine?

I've checked the security tab in the options but neither
box is ticked, but neither machine recieves audio and i
don't have any devices for doing video to check

I don't know what it means -- I am not exactly sure what you are seeing.

Is the audio/advanced button greyed out? From your information it seems not
but you say that you click the button nothing happens .. no pop up window?

I don't know -- is there anything unusual about the machine in question?
Other software running?

From what you are saying the symptoms you are experiencing are definitely
abnormal -- I can't think of anything in the NM sphere that could cause
them.

the button is lit up, it's just nothing happens after
it's clicked. Fairly confident it's an error on my
machine as i've got two other machines working properly
with audio compression changes available, would removing
and re-installing from the windows web site help?

You can't install any downloaded NetMeeting on XP. The NetMeeting install
files are protected from deletion and modification by the system file
protection feature so it is unlikely that a file is corrupted. You can go
through a procedure that reinitializes the registry to initial state --
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q267958 has an
outline of the procedure.

Without knowing the root cause of your problem it is difficult to say what
positive effect the procedure might have though I don't think it can hurt.
